Funeral For Cyber Abuse Victim

The funeral of a teenage girl who died after suffering abuse online is to be held today.

Fourteen-year-old Hannah Smith was found hanged in her bedroom at the family home in Lutterworth by her sister two weeks ago.

The teenager's family said Hannah had suffered months of cyber bullying via the question-and-answer website, Ask.fm, although there have been reports that the teenager sent herself many of the abusive messages.

The funeral service will be held at St Mary's Church, Lutterworth, Leicestershire, and hundreds of people are expected to attend.

The service will be conducted by the Reverend Charlie Styles and will celebrate Hannah's life.

In a statement on the church's website, it says: "The service will be informal, with space for thought and private prayer, as we seek to reflect Hannah's life and give space for all to grieve. This service will provide a focal point for the community in a time of shock and great sadness.

"During the service a candle will be lit in Hannah's memory and prayers will be said for her family and friends.

"Dave has asked that a selection of the comments from the book of memories be read aloud as a tribute to his daughter."

Dave (David Smith), Hannah's father, has asked that those attending the service do not wear black, instead asking for them to choose brightly coloured clothing, including onesies, as that is what his daughter loved.

St Mary's added that a book of condolence will not be closed at the church until next week.
