Plans Announced For New Super-Prison
As plans for a new super-prison in north Wales are unveiled it has been announced that four prisons in England will close.
Prisons in Reading, Dorchester, Northallerton and Blundeston will close in March next year with the lose of 1,400 prison place in England and Wales.
A new £250 million super-prison will be built in Wrexham and will have the capacity for 2,000 inmates and create 1,000 jobs, the government have said.
However, some 685 staff from the four closing prison could face losing their jobs, according to the BBC.
Work on the new super-prison is due to begin next summer, with an expected completion date of late 2017.

Home Secretary to announce new prisons
The Home Secretary John Reid is to announce plans for two new prisons, providing an extra 1,300 spaces. The prisons, which will reportedly cost more than £160m, will be located near Ashworth high security mental hospital in Merseyside and next to Belmarsh prison in Woolwich, south east London.

The decision follows a report from the Centre for Social Justice that said the new X-ray scanners were a "game changer" in US prisons, adding that the devices could "revolutionise" drug searches in the UK facilities.

Staff Sacked From Immigration Centre Over Sex With Detainee
Two male staff have been sacked from Yarl's Wood immigration centre after it was reported that they had had sex with a female detainee. According to reports a 23-year-old Roma woman reported having sex with the two employee's while being detained at the 400-bed Serco-operated centre.

Police Overtime Bill Set For £60m Cut
An independent review has indicated how police pay and conditions require a "radical overhaul". The Winsor report highlights how cuts of up to £60m per year are necessary. It recommends the suspension of Chief Officers and Superintendents bonuses and the scrapping of other earnings, including priority payments totalling up to £5,000 a year.
