UK Terror-Arrest Charges At Record High
Figures released by the Home Office show that the number of people arrested in Britain for terrorism, and subsequently charged with a criminal offence, is at its highest level.
In 2012-13, some 105 people arrested for terrorism offences were charged, but only 37 of those charges were for terror-related offences Subsequently, 23 have been convicted of an offence, with 13 still awaiting trial, while one case did not proceed.
To date, 17 of those convicted have been sentenced, with 16 sent to prison and one receiving a hospital order. None of those jailed received a life sentence.
The remaining 68 were charged under other legislation.
In total, 249 arrests were made, which is an increase of 21% on the previous year.
In the same period, 39 people previously jailed for terrorism offences were released.
The figures, published by the Home Office, also show five terror suspects were held in custody before charge for longer than seven days, while three were held for the maximum 14-day period.
Elsewhere, the statistics reveal that between September 2001 and August 2012, 2,297 people have been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences.
Just over 46% of these were Muslims, while 47% were of "unknown" religion.
The remaining were of other religions or no religion.

Five Charged With Syria-Related Terrorism Offences
Two men and three women are to appear before Westminster Magistrates Court charged with Syria-related terrorism offences. The men Ayman Shaukat, aged 27 of Pargetter Street, and Alex Nash, aged 21 of Bentley Road, were arrested last Tuesday, 09 June, along with Nash's wife, Yousma Jan aged 20, also of Bentley Road.

Woman Arrested At Heathrow On Terrorism Charges
A 25-year-old woman has been arrested at Heathrow Airport on suspicion of terrorism offences. It is understood that the woman was travelling with her one-year-old son when officers arrested her as she disembarked a flight from Turkey. Police said her charges relate to offences in Syria.

Man Arrested On Terrorism Offences
A man has been arrested in Luton on suspicion of fundraising and inciting terrorism overseas, it has been reported. The Metropolitan Police said the 35-year-old has been taken into custody in London. Searches are now being carried out at three properties; two are in east London and the third is in Luton.

Primary Teacher Charge With Sex Offences
A teacher in charge of very young children has been charged with 19 sex offences. Fifty-five-year-old David Thorley, Head of Pembroke Dock Community School in Pembrokeshire, is alleged to have committed the offences between 2003 and 2007 in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. It is understood the charges relate to "sexual touching of children".
