Fan Admits Punching Police Horse

A football fan has admitted punching a horse in disorder after a Newcastle and Sunderland football match.

45-year-old Barry Rogerson previously denied the charge.

Rogerson will be sentenced on October 24.

Hybrid TomTato Plant Unveiled

A new hybrid plant is to be introduced to the UK market producing both tomatoes and potatoes.

It is claimed that the TomTato is not genetically modified and that this is the first of its type to be produced on a commercial scale.

Tesco Employee Disciplined Over Sun Newspaper Remarks

A Tesco's cashier has been disciplined after they told a customers "not to buy The Sun".

It is understood that the female employee made the comment over the papers coverage of the Hillsborough disaster.

Confirming that the employee was disciplined for her remarks the supermarket said: "We are here to serve our customers and to ensure they can buy the products they want."

Man charged with firebomb murders
A man has been charged with the murder of two people killed during an arson attack on a south London convenience store. Robert Torto, 32, from Stockwell Park Road, appeared at Greenwich Magistrates' Court today. He was also charged with three counts of arson with intent to endanger life.

Police Worker Disciplined Over Speeding Tickets 'Shambles'
A Lancashire police worker has received a warning after a "shambles" which led to 2,115 speeding tickets being cancelled. The worker was cleared of dishonesty and breaching the code of conduct on performance of duties, but found guilty of making mistakes after an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Police officers and staff disciplined over email
A potentially racist email circulated by police officers and staff at Hertfordshire Constabulary has resulted in disciplinary action against 100 staff. The action followed an investigation into the circulation of an email image of a black man decapitated on railings.

Longbridge car plant reopens
The former MG Rover car plant at Longbridge in Birmingham has officially reopened. The new owners of MG Rover, Nanjing Automobile Corporation (NAC), plan to build the MG TF sports car at the Longbridge site. At the reopening, NAC announced that £250 million had already been invested in MG, both in the UK and China, and pledged to invest more.

BA Employee Wins Discrimination Ruling
The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that British Airways discriminated against and employee of their Christian beliefs. Nadia Eweida took her case to the European Court of Human Rights after BA made her stop wearing a cross visibly. Judges ruled her rights had been violated under Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
