Police Excavate Grave In Murder Investigation

Police are to excavate a grave as part of a murder investigation.

Helen McCourt (22) vanished in 1988 after calling her mother to tell her she was on her way home from work.

In 1989, pub landlord and father-of-two Ian Simms was convicted of her murder. Blood and an earring identical to one owned by Miss McCourt were found in the boot of his car.

However, no body has ever been recovered.

Police announced today that they had receive information suggesting that her body may have been placed in a particular grave. It is understood that the family who own the plot have agreed to police excavating the site.

Derailed Freight Trains Shuts Line

A derailed freight train has caused the closure of a railway line between Gloucestershire and Wales.

According to reports, a freight train carrying empty containers came off the tracks west of Gloucester station at around 8.30pm on Tuesday.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch are to investigate how the derailment occurred. The line is expect to be closed for up to four days.

Talks Begin In Effort To Save Creamery Jobs

Talks are underway in an effort to save some 230 jobs at a Wrexham creamery marked for closure.

First Milk's cheese-packing plant in Maelor could close by the end of May 2014 after losing a "significant" contract with Asda.

Danish company Arla has taken over the deal and will operate from its site 12 miles (19 km) from Wrexham.

But First Milk said it is negotiating with Arla to employ its staff who will otherwise be made redundant.

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

11 Arrested After Two People Jump From Stena Ferry
An investigation into two people missing from a ferry has led to the arrest of 11 people in the Netherlands. The Stena Britannica, sailing from Harwich to the Hook of Holland, reported on Thursday morning that two passengers were missing, and were thought to have jumped overboard.

Network Rail Seeks Legal Action Over Strike
Network Rail has said it is seeking legal action in order to stop a strike by members of the TSSA union. Members of the TSSA are due to join RMT union workers in a 24-hour strike from 5pm on Monday 25 May – a bank holiday in the UK.

Eurostar Resuming Full Service After Fire
Eurotunnel trains departing from St Pancras are expected to be running at full capacity by the end of the week. Freight trains will run at approximately 90% capacity. The first of three 10.5mile sections of track in the north tunnel should be reopened today. A second section is to be opened by Wednesday.
