Cyclist Caught Over Train Near Miss

A cyclist has been given a formal police caution after she narrowly missed being hit by a train when she ignored a closed level crossing barrier.

The incident with the 26-year-old female cyclist was captured by CCTV. In the footage the cyclist is seen passing the closed level crossing barrier and cycling straight towards the tracks, before slamming on the brakes as a train speeds through the crossing.

Fire Fighters Strike Called Off

The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) have announced the cancellation of a planned five-hour strike.

It had been due to take place between 18:30 and 23:30 on Saturday, however, due to progress in talks over pensions it has been called off, the union said.

Jobs Save As Bakery Sells Shops

A Wrexham bakery has sold five of its shops to a Cheshire-based company but it said all 50 staff are being kept on.

Shops owned by Village Bakery in Wrexham, Rhos, Llangollen, Ruthin and Holywell will now be run by Chatwins from Nantwich.

Village Bakery said it now plans to concentrate on the "booming" wholesale side of its business.

Premier Foods To Shut Down Two Bakery Sites
Premier Foods has announced it will be closing two bakery sites which will result in axing 900 jobs. The firm, which makes Hovis, said its sites in Greenford and Birmingham will be closing some time next year, in addition to the previously announced closure of the Eastleigh bakery.

Woman Dies During Charity Channel Swim
A woman from Barwell, Leicestershire, has died during a charity swim across the English Channel. Susan Taylor, who was in her 30s, got into difficulty while in the water and despite receiving treatment in a support boat was pronounced dead in Boulogne on Sunday.

Man Critical Following Attack In Kingswinford
Police are appealing for a number of people who may have witnessed an attack on a man in Kingswinford in the early hours of Saturday. The attack happened between 2.15 and 2.30am on Saturday 9 May in High Street, Kingswinford between Bar South and The Arizona Crossing pub.

Teenager killed in train crossing collision
A teenager has been killed and two more young men seriously injured following a collision between a train and a car in northern Scotland. The accident happened at the Delny crossing near Invergordon, north of Inverness, around 8:15am on Friday morning.

Driver Arrested After Car Crashes Into Train At Level Crossing
An investigation has been launched into an incident in which a car collided with a train in Berkshire. British Transport Police have confirmed a car crashed into a train at a level crossing at Datchet in Berkshire at about 06:05 this morning. It is understood that the 67-year-old female driver was not injured in the collision.
