Unite 'Optimistic' For Future Of Grangemouth
Following the announcement on Wednesday of the closure of the Grangemouth petrochemical plant, the Unite union has said that it will "embrace" the survival plan proposed by management company Ineos.
The union said that talks with Ineos had left them optimistic for the future of the plant.
Currently the plant is on a 'cold shut down' and all 800 staff face losing their jobs if the closure goes ahead.
Workers had previously rejected a management offer that would have ended their final salary pension scheme and cut shift allowances.
However, a meeting was held on Thursday morning between Unite and Ineos, at which the union say they made a number of recommendations.
The union say that they left the meeting confident that the plant can be saved and are now waiting on a response from Ineos.
