Actor Nigel Davenport Dies Aged 85

Actor Nigel Davenport has died aged 85.

The BBC have reported that the veteran British actor died on October 25. He had been suffering from pneumonia.

During a career spanning more than 50 years, Davenport appeared in such films as A Man for All Seasons and Chariots of Fire and the TV series Howards' Way.

Council Consider Roadside Memorial Time Limit

A 13-month time limit has been proposed for roadside memorials by Plymouth City Council.

Councillors are due to debate the proposal at a meeting next week.

The time limit is being considered for how to manage the large shrines families put up after a death.

The council is concerned tributes could be a distraction for drivers and become an eyesore if they are left

15,000 Properties Still Without Power

Some 15,000 properties are still without power in the east of England following storms at the beginning of the week.

Winds of up to 80mph (129kmh) on Monday brought down trees and power lines, causing what UK Power Networks said was "extensive" damage.

At its height, 300,000 households in the region had no power.

Legal Challenge On New Power Station
Campaigners have lodged papers at the Court of Session in Edinburgh which may halt the construction of a new power station in Ayrshire, it has been reported. Action group, Communities Opposed to New Coal at Hunterston (Conch), has appealed for a judicial review of the plans for the coal-fired power station at Hunterston.

Study links power lines to childhood leukaemia
Children who live near power lines are more likely to develop leukaemia, a team of scientists has claimed. Researchers from Oxford University found that children who lived within 200 metres of high voltage power lines had a 70% higher chance of developing leukaemia than those children who lived more than 600 metres away from the power cables.

Cockenzie Power Station To Be Demolished
Details regarding the demolition of the former Cockenzie Power Station site have been released. A controlled explosive demolition will take place at noon on Saturday 26 September which will involve the twin chimney stacks at the site being razed to the ground.

Cracks Found In Reactor At Nuclear Power Station
New cracks have been discovered in one of the reactors at Hunterstob B nuclear power station in North Ayrshire. Two of the 6,000 graphite bricks are cracked. EDF Energy, the plants operator, said the crack was predicted.

'Fast Eddie' Convicted Over Fee Scam
A convicted fraudster, known as Fast Eddie, has lost his legal appeal against a disqualification from becoming a company director, following opposition from the Insolvency Service. Eddie Davenport was last year found to be behind a high-profile advance fee scam and disqualified from being a director.
