Midwife Guilty Of Failure To Provide Care Over Baby Left In Cupboard

A tribunal has found a midwife guilty of failure to provide appropriate care over an incident in which a four-day-old baby was left face down in a stationery cupboard.

35-year-old Yvonne Musonda-Malata, was working a night shift at Queen's Hospital in Romford, east London, on 18 April 2011 when she left the baby in a cupboard.

A second midwife, Christine Onade, was cleared of the same charge by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

It is understood that the incident came to light with the baby was found alone in the cupboard by a nursery nurse.

The NMC panel will rule on Wednesday as to what sanctions Musonda-Malata will face.
