17-Year-Old Becomes Youngest Stem Cell Donor
A 17-year-old schoolgirl has become the youngest person to donate stem cells to a non-relative.
According to reports Victoria Rathmill, of Macclesfield, Cheshire, joined the Anthony Nolan bone marrow register in February after a family friend was diagnosed with leukaemia.
She subsequently donated after being found to be a match with a patient suffering from blood cancer.
Her donation has made her the youngest person to provide stem cells to a non-relative.
Snowfall Causes Traffic Disruptions
Roads have been blocked and closed following snowfall on high ground across parts of Wales.
A number of incidents have been reported following overnight snowfall. The A4212 between Bala and Trawsfynedd in Gwynedd was blocked after a number of cars were abandoned.
Hazardous conditions were also reported in Corwen and Pentrefoelas.
South Wales Police said there had been a number of accidents during the morning rush hour.
Elsewhere, snow and ice have been causing problems for commuters in the north east of Scotland and Northern Isles, with several accidents reported.
Seven Vehicles Crash Reported In Inverness
Police in Scotland have reported that seven vehicles have been involved in a crash on the A9, north of Inverness at the Tore roundabout.
According to reports no-one was injured in the crash.
The crash happened on the north side of the roundabout and has partially blocked the road. Fire and ambulance crews have also been sent to the scene.

Government pledges cash for stem cell research
The government has announced that an extra £50 million will be made available for UK stem cell research over the next two years. The announcement followed the publication of the UK Stem Cell Initiative report, which has recommended that that the government should invest at least £350 million in the research over the next decade.

All babies to receive sickle cell screening
All babies in England are to undergo screening for sickle cell blood disorders within two weeks of birth. The test, which will be part of the standard heel-prick test, will both identify individuals with the disorder as well as those who carry the gene for the disease but do not suffer from it.

The Sun newspaper has been heavily condemned for publishing photographs showing captured dictator Saddam Hussein half naked. The paper’s front page today carried a photo of the former Iraqi dictator in a pair of underpants, with the headline ‘The Tyrant’s In His Pants’.
