Journalist, Broadcaster And Activist Ray Gosling Dies Aged 74
Journalist, broadcaster and gay rights activist Ray Gosling has died aged 74.
According to reports Gosling, who presented more than 100 television documentaries and many more radio programmes, died in hospital in Nottingham.
In 2010 he was sentenced for wasting police time after he falsely claimed on a BBC show that he had smothered a former lover who was dying of Aids.
Nottingham University NHS Trust said Gosling died at the Queen's Medical Centre on Tuesday.
Men Arrested Over North Lanarkshire Cannabis Haul
Cannabis plants worth an estimated £135,000 have been discovered at a flat in North Lanarkshire.
Police Scotland have reported that two men have been arrested in connection with the find.
Acting under a warrant officers searched the flat in the town's Alexander Street at about 19:55 on Tuesday.
Welsh Great Oak Nominated For European Award
The Great Oak at the Gates of the Dead, near Chirk, Wrexham, has been nominated for the European Tree of the Year award.
The tree is named after an 1165 battle in which Welsh forces ambushed an invading English army, burying the dead nearby.
The Woodland Trust, which nominated the oak, said the competition aimed to find the most "lovable" tree.

Armed Man Shot By Police
A man in his 40's has been shot by police officers following reports that a man was armed and intending to harm himself and others in Knaphill, Woking. Officers from the Surrey Police attended an address in Oak Tree Road just after 10pm last night. He has been taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting where he is being treated.

Man in court over toddler rape and murder
The uncle of toddler Casey Leigh Mullen has appeared in court charged with her rape and murder. The two-year-old was found dead at her home in Oak Tree Crescent in the Gipton area of Leeds on February 11. A post-mortem revealed that Casey died from compression of the neck.

Uncle remanded in custody over child's death
A man has appeared in court charged with the rape and murder of his two-year-old niece who was found in a pool of blood on her bedroom floor on February 11. Casey Mullen was found dead at her home in Oak Tree Crescent, Gipton, Leeds following a disturbance.

'Mercy Killing' Presenter 'Wasted Police Time'
A BBC presenter who claimed to have smothered his terminally ill lover has received a 90-day suspended sentence for wasting police time. Ray Gosling, 71, from Nottingham, had been charged over the claim, which he made during an interview with Bill Turnbull on BBC Breakfast on February 16.

Man Critical After North London Stabbing
A 28-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after being found with a stab wound in his neck in north London. The Metropolitan Police say that the man was stabbed at about 01:30 in Watling Park in Burnt Oak. It is understood the man was able to walk to Burnt Oak Underground station, where he was found by a member of the public.
