Review Calls For PCCs To Be Scrapped
A review of policing in England and Wales has recommended that Police and Crime Commissioners (PCC) be abolished and replaced.
Introduced in 2012, PCCs should be abolished by 2016 with more power given to local councillors and authorities, according to ex-Met Police Commissioner Lord Stevens, who lead the review.
The review also suggests that some police forces should be merged, arguing that the current 43-force structure was "untenable".
Commissioned by the Labour party in 2011, the coalition government has said that it will look at the report but added that it is not compelled to implement any of its recommendations.
