Man Jailed For 19 Years Had Over One Million Child Abuse Files
A 65-year-old man has been jailed for 19 years after admitting a string of sexual offences committed against children.
John Bidmead, of Cullompton, Devon, was caught by police following a tip by Interpol, who had traced him downloading extreme child abuse.
According to reports when police raided Bidmead's home, he was caught watching a child abuse movie, streamed from his computer onto a 50-inch television.
Police subsequently found that Bidmead had not only one the largest library's of images they had encountered, but that he had also been documenting his own abuse of and rape of a child.
Police found 124 home made films, showing Bidmead committing abuse, and a further 1.500 files made by him of four more girls.
Bidmead admitted four counts of rape, six of indecent or sexual assault and 19 counts of taking or making indecent photographs.
He was jailed at Exeter Crown Court for 19 years.

Met Combine All Ongoing Historical Child Abuse Investigations
The Metropolitan Police has combined all ongoing investigations into historical child abuse, to be led by a newly formed investigation team under Detective Superintendent Ang Scott. The force said that is has decided to combine Operations Midland and Fairbank following the discovery of a number of people and locations common to both enquiries.

Report notes increase in child porn sites
The number of child porn sites reported to police has increased by almost 80%, a new report has revealed. The report, by the Internet Watch Foundation, said that public intolerance of child abuse sites and the development of new skills aimed at tackling the distribution of such images had led to the increase in reports.

NSPCC Calls Rise After Death Of Baby P
More people are calling the NSPCC Helpline about serious child abuse since the death of Baby Peter two years ago. Between April 2008 and March 2009, the 24-hour freephone service passed on 11,243 suspected child protection cases to police or social services - an increase of more than a third over two years.

Witnesses Sought To Alleged Wimbledon Rape
Police have appealed for witnesses following an alleged rape in Wimbledon in the early hours of Sunday morning. Officers were called at approximately 02:00 on Sunday, 25 October, by the victim, a 34-year-old woman, who stated she had been attacked 30 minutes earlier in Dundonald Recreation Ground, Dundonald Road.
