Road Safety Scheme Targeting Key Junctions Across London
Traffic police have been targeting offenders at 166 key junctions during rush hour across London in an effort to raise road safety awareness.
Under the campaign officers issued some 150 fixed penalty notices on Monday, with the main offences being use of a mobile phone while driving or running a red light.
The new safety scheme will run from now until Christmas and will involve all 2,500 traffic officers handing out advice to anyone seen putting themselves or other road users at risk, including pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and other motorists.
The move follows the number of cyclists being killed in the city rose dramatically in early November.
