Labour Lay Out Skills Expectations For JSA Claimants
Labour have called for all new claimants to meet a basic skills standard in order to qualify for benefits.
Under the plans people making a new claim for Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) would be expected to take a basic skills test, involving English, maths and computing, within six weeks in order to qualify.
Making the announcement, shadow work and pensions secretary Rachel Reeves, added that claimants who have worked but then lost a job could initially receive levels of JSA.

Unemployment At Six-Year Low
Newly released figures from the Office for National Statistics have revealed that unemployment in the UK has fallen to 2.12m, down by 121,000 in the three months to May. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures show that unemployment is now at its lowest in almost six years, standing at 6.5% in the three months to April.

Slowing Of UK Jobless Growth
Previous acceleration in the growth of the UK's jobless figure is continuing to ease, according to data released today. Unemployment levels between August and October rose by 21,000, bringing the total figure to 2.49 million. Office for National Statistics (ONS) suggested this is smallest increase since the March-to-May period in 2008.
