Broadmoor Redevelopment To Begin

A £242 million redevelopment of Broadmoor Hospital is to get underway today.

Alongside a redeveloped 16-ward, 234-bed unit, some of the estates' Victorian buildings, declared unfit for purpose in 2003, will be demolished.

There will also be a new therapy building, housing shops for patients and education and vocational services.

Work on the high-security psychiatric hospital in Crowthorne, Berkshire, is expected to be completed in early 2017.

A sod-cutting ceremony will take place today at 13:30.
