Unite Vows To Fight For Print Firm Jobs

The Unite union has said that is will make "strenuous efforts" to save 90 jobs at a printing company in Denbighshire

According to the union print factory Dobson & Crowther in Llangollen, are due to begin a redundancy consultation on Monday.

The unions adds that this follows a voluntary 7.3% pay cut taken by staff to help the company as it suffered financial difficulties.

Work is also due to begin on a new replacement factory for the company as part of a land swap deal it reached with supermarket chain Sainsburys.

Untie said the news of job cuts was devastating for the workforce and their families.

'Horrible' Ives Actor Ken Jones Dies Aged 83

Liverpool-born actor Ken Jones has died aged 83.

Best known for his role as 'Horrible' Ives in the TV comedy Porridge, Mr Jones died at a nursing home in Prescott, Merseyside, on Thursday. He had previously been diagnosed with bowel cancer.

He also appeared in The Liver Birds, Casualty and Peak Practice.

Bogland Fire Burns Out, Investigation Underway

An investigation is underway into the cause of a fire on bogland close to High Street in Borth, near Aberystwyth.

Fire crews were called at 05:20 on Friday and allowed the blaze, which covered about a hectare (2.5 acres), to burn itself out by early afternoon.

Employees of Western Greyhound in Cornwall have arrived at work this morning to find the company has ceased trading. According to a report by the BBC, around 40 staff arrived for work on Friday morning and found the depot closed.

Trainmaker Wins Thameslink Electric Contract
Derby-based trainmaker Bombardier has won a £180 million deal to supply some 116 electric rolling stock vehicles. The new stock will be used on the north-south, cross-London Thameslink route. The contract also contains the option for an additional 140 vehicles, which brings the potential value of the order to£385 million.

UK Teen Sells App For 'Dozens Of Millions'
A UK teenager has sold an app he created to Yahoo for an undisclosed sum, thought to be “dozens of millions”. 17-year-old Nick D’Aloisio created the app Summly, which summarizes news stories from popular media companies. He launched the app when he was just 15 and soon attracted more than £1m of investment.
