Four Men And Teenager Jailed For Sex Attacks

Four men have been jailed for a total of 54 years for the rape and sexual assault of five girls in Peterborough.

33-year-old Hassan Abdulla was jailed for 20 years for four rapes and three counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity; 18-year-old Zdena Mirga received a sentence of 16-and-a-half years for eight counts of rape and one count of inciting child prostitution; 18-year-old Renato Balog was jailed for 12 years for five rapes and three sexual assaults; and 17-year-old Jan Kandrac was sentenced to five-and-a-half years for one count of rape and two of indecent assault on a child.

A 14-year-old boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was given a non-custodial six-month youth rehabilitation order after being convicted of sexual activity with a child.

It is understood that the case came to light after one of the men's victims was taken into care and she told her social worker what had happened.

Following the case Peterborough City Council has launched an investigation into care services for children.

Rape Investigation Against MP Mark Pritchard Dropped
An investigation into rape allegations against Conservative MP Mark Pritchard have been dropped, Scotland Yard has confirmed. Mr Pritchard, MP for The Wrekin in Shropshire, was arrested on 2 December, however he was released on police bail. He has now been informed no further action will be taken.

Date rape case judges 'can influence trial outcome'
A judge's summing-up can influence a jury's decision in date rape cases, a report has suggested. The research, conducted for the British Psychological Society, presented 168 university students with a date rape scenario, which included a summing-up statement by the judge, and asked them to decide on the guilt of the alleged rapist.

£3m Fund To Help Sexual Abuse Victims
The government has awarded more than £3 million to support victims of rape and sexual violence. Rape Crisis Centres will benefit from £1.6 million from the Government's Equalities Office's (GEO) Special Fund, which is supported by the Home Office and Department for Health.
