Farmers' Union Says Flooding Their Land Is 'Ludicrous'
A proposal to direct flood waters to farm land on high ground has been condemned by the National Farmers' Union (FMU), who say the idea is "ludicrous".
The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) proposal would see ponds and bogs being created on high ground in an effort to stop rainfall rushing down hill and flooding homes and businesses in towns.
The NFU say that while lives and human safety should be put first, a higher value should be put on agricultural land.
The CIWEM proposal follows and the Environment Agency admitted it "cannot protect all people and all properties".
