Butcher Wins 'Overwhelming' Support For Window Display
The seasonal produce window display of a butchers shop in Sudbury is to be reinstated after the owners received "overwhelming" support for its return.
The display, which featured the carcasses of dead animals, was removed following threats that shoppers would boycott the precinct and nearby shops.
However, JBS Family Butchers say that after taking the display down and asking the public if it should come back, they received overwhelming support and that the display will return this week.
Council Ends Long-Running Pay Dispute
A long-running pay dispute at South Lanarkshire Council, and involving more than 3,000 people, has been settled.
The dispute centred around female employees claiming that they were earning less than male employees in comparable, but different, jobs.
The council had previously tried to block a freedom of information request on its pay scales.
A financial settlement has now been reached, however the details of the agreement are to be kept confidential.
Job Fears At Boat Building Firm
Up to 130 jobs are at risk amid fears that Mustang Marine, a boat building and repair firm, will be placed in administration.
The Pembroke Post-based company opened a new £1.5m building last November despite suffering significant losses on key contracts that had overrun.
According to a report by BBC Wales, the company will know in the next few days if it will be placed in administration.

Parliament cleaners receive pay rise
Cleaners at the Houses of Parliament are to receive a pay rise, after settling their long-running pay dispute. The workers' rate of pay will increase in stages from £5.20 to £6.70 per hour by next January, under the terms of a deal agreed with the Transport and General Workers Union.

CBI warns employer compulsion is wrong answer
The CBI today has unveiled proposals to help tackle the UK's emerging pensions crisis without compelling business to contribute to staff pension schemes. The employers' organisation argued, in its submission to the Government, that enrolment without compulsion is the best way of increasing pensions saving without undermining existing provision.

New Data Shows Women Hit By 'Mid-Life Pay Crisis'
Female managers over 40 years old are earning 35% less than men, according to new data by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and XpertHR. To earn the same as a male manager over a career, a woman would have to work the equivalent of over 14 years more.

Commission On Minimum Wage Visit
Two Low Pay Commissioners are to visit London next week on a fact-finding visit about the National Minimum Wage. The visit is one of a number of planned trips the Low Pay Commission is making around the UK during 2011 to "gather information on how the minimum wage is operating".
