Over One Thousand Cannabis Plants Seized In Dudley

Over a thousand cannabis plants have been seized today in Dudley after a member of the public tipped off police of 'suspicious goings on and pungent smells'.

Officers rushed to the industrial estate in Meeting Lane, Brierley Hill at 11.20am this morning, unfortunately no-one was at the Canal Side Unit.

The premises are being examined and the plants will be removed and destroyed by the force’s dedicated Cannabis Disposal Team.

The value of the drugs will be determined when they have been examined and officers will carry out fast-track enquiries to trace those responsible for the drugs.

Sergeant Marc Butler, from the CAPT team, said: "There can often be tell-tale signs that a property has been converted into a cannabis factory, such as a strong smell and the noise of machinery.

"These plants have been seized as a direct result of information received from members of the community and we would encourage anyone who has information about suspicious activity in their neighbourhood to come forward and contact us - we will take action."

Three Arrests After Man Is Deliberately Hit By Car

Police have made three arrests after a man was deliberately hit by a car in Wigan on Monday.

Three men, aged 21, 21 and 23, were arrested last night in Wigan on suspicion of attempted murder.

They remain in police custody and will be questioned by detectives today.

The victim has since been discharged from hospital and has not suffered any significant injuries.

Shortly before 8.30pm on Monday 3 March 2014, a 49-year-old man was driving his car along Warrington Road in Wigan near to the Goose Green labour club on the A49, when he noticed a car appeared to be following him and was flashing its lights.

The man pulled his car over on Warrington Road at the junction with Argyll Street to see what the driver wanted and the vehicle, a silver Ford Fiesta or similar model, with possibly up to four people in, pulled up alongside him.

The driver in the silver car pointed a firearm across the passenger sat next to him, and towards the man in his car.

The victim got out of his car and as he did, the silver vehicle drove off, before stopping a short way up the street, where the driver got out of the car and once again pointed the firearm at the man.

The victim ran back to his car, at which point the silver car turned around, mounted the pavement and grass verge and deliberately hit the man, before driving off.

Police believe the collision was a targeted attack and enquiries remain ongoing.
