NHS Prescription Prices To Rise

The cost of NHS prescriptions is set to rise by 20p from April, with a further rise to be added next year.

There will also be a £5 increase in the cost of NHS dental services from 01 April.

Health Minister Norman Lamb had said that increases are needed due to the increasing demand on the NHS, adding that spending on medicines has almost doubled since 2000.

It is understood that almost 90% of prescription in England are free of charge due to exemptions for people on low incomes, children and the over 60s.

Insurance Firm To Create Over 100 Jobs

Insurance firm Lloyd & Barnes has announced plans to create over 100 new jobs in the next five years, following an investment by the Welsh government of £990,000.

The company in Torfaen say they expect to employ up to 66 people within the first year, as it develops and sells insurance policies and products.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart welcomed the news.

Fracking Protestors Win Right To Eviction Hearing

Protestors at an anti-fracking camp in Salford have won the right to appeal an eviction notice.

The camp set up at Barton Moss has won the right to a full hearing over their eviction from the site.

Peel Investsment, who own the land where the protest camp is, were granted possession of the land on Monday with the eviction due to start at lunchtime today.

'Postcode lottery' remains in NHS dental care
There are "huge regional variations" in NHS dental care in England, consumer organisation Which? has warned in new research. The survey of 466 dentistry practices - which comes a year after the start of new NHS dentists' contract in England - found that just over a third (36%) are taking on any new NHS patients.

A new nationwide drive to recruit NHS staff, which will focus for the first time on the over 50s, has been was launched today. NHS Job Shop Day comprises of 220 events taking place around the country on or around 23 September. Around 150 Jobcentres across England will also be holding special NHS events on 23 September as part of NHS Job Shop Day.
