M4 Expansion Plans Announced
The government has announced plans to increase capacity on the M4 motorway.
The Highways Agency has said that the planned expansion, which aims to reduce congestion, improve journey times and cut air pollution, will cost between £614 million and £862 million.
Part of the changes will include the hard shoulder being made into a traffice lane for a 31 mile stretch of road between the A312 at Heathrow Airport to Theale.
CCTV monitored refuge bays will replace the hard shoulder, to allow motorists to pull off the road and wait for rescue services.
An exhibition of the expansion plans will be held from 18-24 March at different locations. The list of exhibitions can be found on the Highways Agency website.
