Chief Constable Calls For More Use Of Stop And Search
The chief constable of Leicestershire Police has called for an increase in the force's powers to use stop and search.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission had previously criticised the force for its use of the tactic, saying that black males were being targeted "disproportionately".
However, the chief constable, Simon Cole, has said that the force has subsequently halved its use of stop and search, while also more than doubling its arrested made from the tactic.
He argues that this shows the tactics' effectiveness.
Six Months Until Scottish Independence Referendum
Campaigners have marked six months until the referendum vote on Scottish independence.
On 18 September, voters in Scotland will be asked "Should Scotland be an independent country?", and asked to vote "yes or no".
Labour also used the date to launch proposals that would allow the Scottish Parliament to vary income tax and have greater control of housing benefit.
Jobs To Go At Snowdonia In Cost Saving Plan
Staff at Snowdonia National Park Authority have been invited to apply for voluntary redundancy as part of a plan to save almost £900,000 in the next two years.
It is not yet known exactly how many jobs are likely to be lost at the authority but it is understand that a number of roles will be cut following the voluntary period.
It is understood that the Welsh Government has cut grants paid to the authority by 8.75% for 2014/15, with a possible further cut of 4.31% in 2015/16.

Missing Boy's Funeral Held Today
A funeral will be held later for a British boy who drowned while cycling on an island in the south of France. 12-year-old Pierre Barnes from Grantham in Lincolnshire vanished on 27 October while cycling on Porquerolles. The boy went missing just hours after arriving for a half-term family holiday.

New figures from the Home Office show that police have stopped using anti-terrorism stop and search powers. The controversial powers enabled police to search anyone within a designated area for terrorist materials, but they were not used once between April and September 2011.

Life For Gardening Murderer
A gardener has been jailed for life after being found guilty of the murder of 54-year-old Lynda Casey from Coulsdon in Surrey. Ms Casey's body was found by police search teams in an area of Banstead Woods in Surrey known as Great Solom’s Wood on 13 August 2009. A post mortem examination showed she had suffered multiple head injuries.
