Royal Mail To Axe 1,300 Jobs

Royal Mail has confirmed it is planning to cut 1,300 jobs as part of a new scheme to cut costs, around £50m, mainly among its head office managerial staff.

The firm said it would start consultations on the cuts with Unite and CWU on Tuesday.

The company which was privatised last year said that delivery staff would not be affected by the actions sent.

Moya Greene, Royal Mail's chief executive, said: "We are continuously improving our efficiency, whilst maintaining our high quality of service."

Royal Mail said making the cuts would cost it about £100m, taking its cumulative "transformation" costs for 2013-14 to £230m.
