Man Jailed Following Attack On Pensioner

A man has been sentenced to three years in jail after an attempted robbery on an elderly woman. The woman, 83, was shopping in Bilston with her husband, who is blind.

The attack happened on 21 January.

The accused, Jason Hall, approached the couple on Church Street before he grabbed the pensioner's handbag. The woman was pushed to the ground but refused to hand over her bag. She tried to fight off her attacker but he was able to flee the scene with her bag.

Other shoppers witnessed the incident and chased Mr Hall. They managed to stop him and brought him back to the scene where he was arrested by police and later charged with robbery.

Woman Dies In Asda Supermarket

A woman has died at an Asda supermarket in Shipley.

Officers were called to the scene in Manor Lane shortly after 8.30am following a report of a woman being found with serious injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

West Yorkshire Police has said the death is not being treated as suspicious and no one is being sought in connection with the incident.

An appeal has now been launched to try and identify the woman who is Asian and believed to be aged between 20 and 40 years old. She is described as having shoulder-length dark hair which was tied in a ponytail and was wearing dark blue top and trousers with large silver buttons to the front and a lighter blue or purple scarf.

Boy Gets Head Stuck In Toilet

A young boy has had to be rescued after he got his head stuck in a toilet trainer seat.

Firefighters were called to a house in Fore Street, Barripper, Cornwall, at around 9am this morning. It is understood the boy's parents tried to free him but failed.

The child was freed and left unharmed in the incident.

Phone Stolen From Foreign Student

Police are appealing for witnesses after a thief on a bicycle stole a mobile phone from a foreign student in St Leonards.

The 17-year-old victim was walking with a friend in Charles Road when they were approached from behind by a man on a bicycle. The incident happened at around 7.20pm on Saturday (22 March) who asked them the time.

The Colombian student got out her iPhone 5 to check the time but the man grabbed the phone and cycled away down Anglesea Terrace.

The thief has been described as white, taller than 5' 8", thin and 18 or 19 years of age.

He had short dark blonde hair and a thin face and was wearing a grey hooded top and dark grey trousers.

Church Asked To Support Fast-Track Women Bishops Law
The first woman bishop in the Church of England could be appointed by Christmas. The general synod supports the legislation to fast-track the revision of the latest proposals and to reduce the time given to individual dioceses. This could lead to a final vote in July with the legislation approved by November.

Disabled Woman Found Dead In Car
A disabled woman found stabbed to death in her car near her home in Harlow, Essex, has been named. Jennifer Macaree was discovered in Hadley Grange on the outskirts of Harlow early on Saturday. Essex Police confirmed she was in the driver's seat of her black Vauxhall Corsa in a parking area near her flat shortly after 3am.

Baby Death Mother Named
The British woman charged with causing the death of her newborn baby in a hotel room in Crete has been named. Leah Andrew, from London, has been charged with infantide after being arrested in Malia on Tuesday. Ms Andrew was rushed to hospital by local residents after giving birth alone in her room.

Man arrested over canal torso find
A man has been arrested following the discovery of a woman's torso in a suitcase which was floating in London's Regent's Canal. Police were called to the Regents Canal in Islington on Saturday after a group of teenagers spotted a suitcase floating in the water. They managed to pull the case from the water and discovered a human torso inside.

Suspicious Man Attempts To Enter Woman's Car
A 'suspicious' man has tried to get into a woman's vehicle while she sat at traffic lights on a rural road in Midlothian, police have said. The incident happened at approximately 1:45am on the B704 near Dalhousie Castle on 23 July. The man was unable to get into the car, which drove off south towards Gorebridge.
