DfE Appoint Former Counter Terrorism Chief To Review 'Take Over' Evidence
The Department for Education has appointed Peter Clark, the former national head of counter terrorism, to review the evidence of an investigation into allegations of a hard-line Muslim plot to take over schools in Birmingham.
However, the appointment has been described as "desperately unfortunate" by the chief constable of West Midlands Police, Chris Sims.
Mr Sims has said that the appointment of Mr Clark will "inevitably draw unwarranted conclusions from his former role as National Co-ordinator for Counter Terrorism."
An investigation has been launched into allegation that hard-line Muslims had tried to take over the running of up to 25 schools across Birmingham, with the City Council saying that it has received more than 200 reports during its inquiry.
