'Irresponsable' Center Parcs Advert Banned

A Center Parcs TV advert has been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), who say it "irresponsibly encouraged parents" to take children on holiday during term time.

The advertisement promoted four-night midweek breaks at the resort and featured families with school-aged children, aired with a small print warning that the offer excludes "school holidays".

Despite only two viewers complaining, the ASA said the advert emphasised a "family break" and suggested families could take advantage of an £279 offer that was not available at weekends or school holidays.

A Center Parcs spokesman said the ruling was "extremely harsh".

Parents in England and Wales have a legal responsibility to ensure their children attend school after the government approved tougher regulations in September to crack down on term-time absence for holidays.

It is not the first time that an advert of Center Parcs has been banned after another for a £249 four-night break banned in 2012 for similar reasons.
