'Ethnic Minority Poster Girl' Quits UKIP
Sanya-Jeet-Thandi, a 21-year-old student at the London School of Economics, who was described by Nigel Farage as "the future face of UKIP" has quit the party accusing it of "descending into a form of racist populism".
The student, once labelled the party's "ethnic minority poster girl" resignation comes just nine days before the Euro elections and less than a week after an UKIP rally that paraded black and Asian candidates. Mr Farage claimed at the rally that his party was the "Clause IV moment" after the allegations over racism against it.
Only six days later Mr Thadi wrote in an article for The Guardian: "They are turning the election into a game of 'us' and 'them'. Well, I am with 'them'." Adding: "Yes, UKIP is a relatively young party. No, that is not an excuse to allow racists to stand for election. Nor is it an excuse to exploit the ignorance in British society and indulge the racist vote by telling them 'they’ll take your jobs'. Sorry, UKIP, you’ve lost another vote."
An UKIP spokesman said although it is a "matter of sadness" when a member leaves the party, another 500 are joining each week at the present.
He called "ludicrous" the suggestions of a racist direction of the party.
