Colchester Station To Be Upgraded

A £7m programme to upgrade the ageing railway infrastructure around Colchester station will create more reliable train services for the growing number of passengers using the line.

The improvements will take place at weekends from 17 May 2014 to 6 July 2014 to ensure the least disruption for passengers and will mean some of the railway lines around Colchester will be closed on these dates.

Services from London will terminate at Colchester and passengers will walk a short route to board another train at the station to continue onto Ipswich and Norwich. Abellio Greater Anglia has amended their timetable to allow extra time to transfer trains.

Richard Schofield, route managing director Anglia, Network Rail, said: "We are investing millions of pounds to upgrade the tracks at Colchester station so that passengers across Anglia get more reliable and punctual trains. This is urgently required work and will deliver a much better level of service to the growing number of passengers that rely on rail services.

"We're sorry that some disruption will be caused over the weekends that we do this work and have worked closely with Abellio Greater Anglia to minimise the impact on the travelling public. We ask passengers to bear with the temporary disruption so that we can give them a better, more reliable service for the long term."

Woman Found Guilty Of Murdering Partner In Drunken Rage

A Wolverhampton woman has been found guilty of murder after she brutally stabbed her partner through the heart.

A jury at Wolverhampton Crown Court took two days to return the verdict today after they saw through the web of lies told by Caroline Loweth as she tried to cover up what she had done.

Loweth, aged 49, denied murdering her partner, 53-year-old John Fletcher, during a drunken argument on the morning of Sunday 27 October 2013 at her flat in Market Square, Wolverhampton.

The court heard the harrowing call she made to ambulance control as John lay dying on the floor, during which she explained that he had been peeling vegetables for their Sunday lunch and had fallen on the knife.

But the jury also heard conflicting evidence from neighbours who heard loud arguments coming from the flat that Sunday and they also learnt that Loweth had stabbed John on several occasions in the past during their four year volatile relationship.

John had, on several occasions, made complaints against Loweth, only to retract them or give a false account to police on how he came about his injuries.
