Wates Awarded £41m Contract

Body Wates Construction has been awarded a £41m contract to build Development Securities' 12 Hammersmith Grove, the second and final phase of its office-led regeneration development in West London.

Work on the new 218,500 sq ft 11-storey building is set to begin immediately and will include speculative Grade A office provision, retail space and additional public realm works adjacent to Hammersmith tube station.

The appointment comes after the contractor reached completion of the first phase of the scheme at 10 Hammersmith Grove in July last year, which included 110,000 sq ft of office space and 6,000 sq ft of cafes, restaurants and public space.

Designed by Flanagan Lawrence, 12 Hammersmith Grove has been funded by Scottish Widows Investment property Partnership Trust (SWIPPT) and is being delivered on the site of a former car park.

The project is scheduled to reach completion for spring 2016 and it expected to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating, with features including green sedum roofing to encourage biodiversity. Green employee travel will also be encouraged through the installation of electric car charge points and 257 cycle racks.

Richard Shroll, Business Unit Director, Wates Construction London & Kent, commented: "Our appointment to deliver 12 Hammersmith Grove is testament to the success of the first phase of the development, which Wates completed on time and on budget last year.
