Police Federation To Lose All Public Funding From August
The Home Secretary has announced that the Police Federation of England and Wales will not longer receive public funding from August.
Speaking to the organisation's conference in Bournemouth the Home Secretary said that the federation had built up "vast reserves of cash" and that they needed to "face up to the reality" on the need for reform of the service.
It is understood that the money previously spent on the federation will now be used for a new scheme called Police First, which aims to attract university graduations to the police force.

Police Lose High Court Pay Battle

The Home Secretary faced harsh criticism at the annual Police Federation conference today. Jacqui Smith addressed 1,000 delegates who were already annoyed at her refusal to backdate a 2.5% pay rise, which effectively reduced the overall award to 1.9%. Police Federation Chairman Jan Berry said that her decision was "a monumental mistake".
