Conservatives Win Newark By-Election
The Conservative Party have described their win the Newark by-election as "comfortable", taking almost 7,500 ahead of UKIP.
Despite this, Nigel Farage has cut the Conservatives majority by half.
Tory candidate Robert Jenrick held the seat with 17,431 (45%) of the vote.
The UKIP candidate, Roger Helmer, held a big increase with 10,028 votes, finishing second.
Labour's Michael Payne finished in third place with 6,842 votes and 18% of the ballots cast while the Liberal Democrats' candidate David Watts took 1,004 votes, putting him in sixth place, being beaten by an independent and the Green Party candidate.
The turnout was 52.7%, down from the 71.5% of the general election, but higher than the 2010 average.

Labour Win South Shields By-Election
Labour has won the South Shields parliamentary by-election. While it still retains a seat it has held since 1935, the party did see its majority reduced in the poll. The UK Independence Party (UKIP) finished second in Thursday's election with 24% share of the vote, while the Conservatives fell to third.

Labour and Tories suffer by-election losses
Labour and the Conservatives have suffered losses in two local by-elections. Labour failed to win back its former stronghold of Blaenau Gwent in south Wales, with the seat going to independent candidate Dai Davies.

Labour Party Executive To Consider Leadership System Change
The Labour Party's national executive committee are expected to consider the proposed reforms to party's leadership elections this weekend. The party is understood to be considering adopting the one member, one vote system, which would see its 200,000 members have one vote each in elections to select a new leader.

UKIP's candidate for the Yorkshire and the Humber region, Amjad Bashir, has been accused of hypocrisy after an immigration raid on his restaurant resulted in seven people being arrested on suspicion of immigration offences. In June, authorities carried out a raid on a premises in Manchester.

Labour's former shadow chancellor Ed Balls has lost his election seat to Conservative candidate Andrea Jenkyns. Mr Balls lost his Morley and Outwood seat by 422 votes after a recount.
