Murder Suspicion In Malaysian Gareth Huntley Death
Malaysian police are investigating claims involving the potential murder of the British backpacker Gareth Huntley, who disappeared on May 27 after going on a jungle trek on his own to find a waterfall.
Local officers are investigating the possibility that the 34-year-old was involved in a fight before he went missing.
Mr Huntley, from Hackney, east London, appeared less than 100 metres from the sea turtle conservation camp where he worked, leading police to question initial claims that he got lost int he jungle.
Police are investigating local claims that Mr Huntley was murdered, while the Sunday Telegraph has claimed police are looking into reports that he was involved in a fight shortly before his death.
The family said in an statement: “There are no words that can capture the devastation we feel right now. No words that can capture the kindness, warmth and spirit that Gareth exuded; no words that can describe the void he will leave in all of the lives he touched” and also thanked all the people who go to the area to help finding the 34-year-old."

Huntley to serve 40 years
Double child murderer Ian Huntley is set to serve at least 40 years in jail. Sentencing Huntley today at the High Court, Mr Justice Moses said that Huntley's offences did not meet the criteria for a "whole-life" tariff, but he said that the 40-year tariff offered little or no hope of release.

Maxine Carr distances herself from Ian Huntley
During evidence to the Old Bailey today, Maxine Carr lashed out at her former boyfriend saying she would not take the blame for "what that thing in the box has done to me", referring to Ian Huntley. Ms Carr, 26, told the court that she had been forced to lie to police by her "very controlling" boyfriend.
