Man Jailed For The Death Of A Five-Year-Old Boy
A Birmingham man has been sentenced to five years in prison after causing the death of a five-year-old boy in a collision on Easter Monday last year.
Cameron Marshall Ward was with his parents and being pushed on an adult bicycle by his father as they made their way home along Court Lane on 1 April 2013, when they were struck by a blue Vauxhall Vectra.
The boy was rushed to hospital where he died later that evening.
The 32-year-old driver, Wayne Payne, from Erdington, was later charged and found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving after a three-day trial at Birmingham Crown Court.
Sergeant Neil Higgins from West Midlands Police Collision Investigation Unit said: "Cameron’s parents both gave evidence during the trial, forcing them to relive the tragic events of that day.
"They both acted in an extremely brave and dignified manner during the investigation.
"Not only have they lost a beloved child but they were witnesses to the collision - images they will never forget."
