Additional Security Measures Extended To All UK Air Passengers

Additional security measures introduced at Heathrow Airport last week are to be extended to other UK airports, however the government has not specified which ones.

Last week the Department for Transport (DfT) issued guidelines for passengers flying to the US from Heathrow, advising that electronic devices must be charged before people attempted to travel. It explained that if a device being carried as part had baggage could not turned on, if requested by security personnel to do so, they risk not being allowed to travel with it.

The new security measure was introduced by request from the US following a "credible" terrorist threat.

The DfT have now said that these additional measures are to be extended in the UK, advising that all passengers leaving from or arriving to any UK airport should ensure that electronic devices carried with hand luggage should have enough charge to be turned on.

The department added to it would divulge where these check would be carried out "for obvious reasons".
