Four held over policeman's shooting are released

The four people who were being questioned following the shooting of a police officer in Glasgow last night have been released without charge.

The two men and two women were arrested this morning by armed police at a house on Balintore Street, Shettleston, but were released later this afternoon.

The arrests follow on from the shooting of Constable John Cunningham (53) who was blasted in the side with a shotgun at Shettleston police station. His condition is described as serious but stable.

The gunman then ran from the police office into Chester Street, across Shettleston Road and into Pettigrew Street – leaving the firearm on the counter of the police office. He is not believed to have had further firearms in his possession when he left the police office.

Assistant Chief Constable Ricky Gray described the incident as a "despicable act" and a motive for the attack has not yet been established.

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives on 0141 532 4600 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
