415 Jobs Cuts Announced At BBC News

A further 415 jobs are to be cut from the BBC's News department, the broadcaster has announced.

It is the latest round of cuts imposed as part of cost-saving exercise following the freezing of the licence fee in 2010.

Announcing the cuts, the BBC's director of news James Harding also revealed plans to substantially restructure the news division, which he said would put the BBC "at the forefront of producing news for the digital age using new technologies."

It is understood that 195 new posts will be created as part of this restructuring plan, resulting in net job losses of 220.
