32 Hit With Bug At Athletes' Village
A total of 32 people have been hit by a suspected norovirus outbreak at the Commonwealth Games athletes village in Glasgow, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has said.
It was announced on Wednesday that 12 people were suffering from a vomiting and diarrhoea bug. A further 20 cases have been confirmed overnight.
In a statement, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: "Twenty additional members of the workforce at the Commonwealth Games Village have been reported as experiencing mild gastrointestinal symptoms.
"All 20 have been told to remain at home until they have been clear of symptoms for 48 hours.
"The Public Health Protection Unit of NHSGGC has been made aware of all the cases and is working closely with the Games organisers and Health Protection Scotland on local infection control measures at the village to minimise risk. "
Body Recovered After Car Plunges Over Cliff
A body has been recovered by police divers after a car plunged from a cliff in Caithness.
It was reported at about 13:20 on Wednesday that a car has gone over the 200ft cliff and an emergency operation was launched.
It is understood that rescuers were unable to recover the car as it had moved into deeper water.
The body of a man was recovered when a search operation was restarted on Thursday.
A spokesperson said: "Enquiries are ongoing into this matter and no further information is available at this time."
Emergency Data Legislation To Become Law
Following two days of debate, the government's emergency legislation to allow police to continue to access communications companies' records of is set to become law.
Parliament passed the Data Retention and Investigatory Powers Bill after two consecutive days of debate.
Ministers said it needed to be rushed through to maintain the state's existing powers, after a European Court of Justice ruling in April.
