UK Doctors Head For Gaza As Ceasefire Begins

A group of doctors have left the UK for Gaza to help people injured in the fighting as a three day ceasefire got underway.

A plastic surgeon and two orthopaedic surgeons are understood to be aiming to assess how much medical help is needed, which the UK will use to plan aid.

The deployment of the doctors was announced by the Prime Minister on Sunday ahead of the midnight start of a three-day ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.

Genetic testing could assist in cancer treatment, report claims
Testing tumours for the breast cancer gene BRCA1 could be a powerful way of predicting how patients will respond to chemotherapy, scientists from Breast Cancer Campaign and Cancer Research UK have said. Researchers have found that tumour cells react differently to chemotherapy depending on how well BRCA1 is working within them.

More assistance needed for refugee doctors says BMA
The British Medical Association (BMA) has called for refugee doctors to be given more assistance to pass exams necessary for registration in UK. There are currently 865 refugee doctors on voluntary databases who want to work for the NHS, according to the BMA, and many are subsisting on state benefits of £37 per week.

Former Royle Family star Caroline Aherne is recovering after undergoing treatment for lung cancer. She is also campaigning for better cancer care at her home town of Manchester. This is the third time the 50-year-old actress has battled the illness. She previously has bladder and eye cancer.
