Wikileaks Founder To Leave Embassy 'Soon'
Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks who has spent almost two years living inside the Ecuadorean embassy, has said that he will leave the premises "soon".
It is not known exactly when he will leave the embassy but he said that it was "probably not" for the reasons reported by the UK press – news reports had suggested the Mr Assange was suffering ill-health that needs treatment.
Assange has been living in the embassy since being offered asylum by Ecuador, as he sought to avoid being extradited to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning over alleged sexual assault offences.
Mr Assange sought asylum over fears that Sweden would hand him over to the authorities in the United States as Wikileaks had previously published classified US military documents on the Afghan and Iraq wars.
UK authorities have maintained that Mr Assange would be arrested and deported if he leaves the embassy.
