EDF Energy Fined £3m Over Handling Of Complaints
Energy regulator, Ofgem, has fined EDF Energy £3m following the conclusion of an investigation into how the company dealt with customer complaints.
Complaints made to the company rose by 30% in 2011 following the introduction of a new IT system. Ofgem's investigation found that the company was not able to properly receive, record and process customer grievances.
The company was issued to pay the fine "to benefit vulnerable customers".
EDF is the latest of the so-called 'big six' energy companies to be ordered to make such a payment in the last two years.
