Home Office Figures Show Drop In Met Taser Use
Use of Tasers by the Metropolitan Police Service (MSP) has fallen by almost 12% in the first six months of the year, new figures from the Home Office reveal.
The figures show that between January and June 2014 officers used the Taser 992 times, down from 1124 times between July to December 2013.
The MPS welcomed the news, saying that amid concerns that use of the device would increase as officers became more comfortable with them, it was was "worth noting" that its use had stayed "almost the same".
The situations in which Taser is considered for use, along with existing tactical options, are those involving violence or threats of violence with such severity that officers would need to use force to protect the public, the subject themselves and their colleagues.

Postmasters call for safeguard of rural offices
Postmasters are calling for urgent action by the government in order to safeguard rural post offices. The National Federation of Subpostmasters held a rally in London on Wednesday, while a petition of four million names was handed into 10 Downing Street. The NFSP general secretary Colin Baker warned that this was now "crunch time" for post offices.
