NHS recruitment campaign 'most successful' ever
The government has announced that their recent NHS recruitment campaign has been the "most successful ever".
Figures indicate that almost 80,000 people contacted the NHS Careers helpline as a result of the campaign - beating last year's response by around 30,000.
The campaign included TV adverts featuring a young woman with facial injuries and the team who helped her recover. It is the latest phase of a drive to attract new recruits and encourage trained staff back into the NHS.
Health Minister John Hutton said the NHS was an "attractive place to work".
"There are now almost 50,000 more nurses, almost 8,000 doctors and over 8,000 therapists working in the NHS than there were five years ago. But we want to do more," he said.
"The ongoing recruitment campaign will continue to raise the profile of careers in the NHS, encourage new entrants into training and attract returners back to the NHS to ensure that we continue to build on the success of this campaign."
People thinking about a career in the NHS, or former staff who want to return, can call the NHS Careers helpline on 0845 60 60 655. More information is available on the NHS Careers website.
