British WWI Soldiers Reinterred In Northern France

The remains of 15 British soldiers found during drainage work in 2009, have been reinterred in northern France.

The remains were uncovered during works close to the village of Beaucamps-Ligny near Lille.

DNA was collected from the remains and used to identify eleven of the men. They had served with the 2nd Battalion of the York and Lancaster Regiment.

They were reburied with full military honours at a Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemetery in Bois-Grenier near Lille.

Homebase To Close 23 More Stores By Next March

Twenty three more Homebase stores are to close by March 2015, the Home Retail Group has announced.

Seven stores have already been closed following a review of the business, which found that some 323 Homebase stores were "unprofitable or in decline".

The Home Retail Group plans to cuts the number of stores by 25% by 2019.

Council Seeking Legal Advice Over Taxi Firm Race Policy

Rochdale Borough Council is seeking legal advice over a taxi firm that is allowing its customers to specify the race of their driver.

According to reports, Car 2000 in Heywood claim that they take up to 60 calls a week from customers requesting a "local" driver – the firm says that by 'local' customers are asking for a white driver.

The Council has said that the firm is not in breach of its licence but added that it was taking legal advice.

Doncaster Tesco Drivers To Strike For 48 hours
More than 180 drivers at the Tesco distribution centre in Doncaster will strike for 48 hours next week, disrupting supplies to Tesco stores across the region. The strike will start at 00:05 on Tuesday 9 October and will end at 00:05 on Thursday 11 October and will cause havoc in supplying the Tesco stores in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

Sluggish retail sales growth peaks in June
The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics have revealed that in June the underlying rate of growth in retail sales volumes was the highest so far this year. However, the annual growth has remained the lowest for more than six years, according to data released today by the ONS.
