Lord Barnett Dies Aged 91
Former Labour Cabinet Minister, Lord Barnett, has died, aged 91.
He was the Treasury Chief Secretary in the 1970s, who devised the Barnett formula, a system which allocated public spending to Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The formula still remains in place today.
Labour leader in the Lords Baroness Royall said: "Joel was an extraordinary individual.
"As an MP, minister and colleague in the House of Lords, to the very end he was diligently holding the Government to account and doing his best to ensure the best for the people of this country."

Budding lawyers seeking advice and support in their efforts to join the legal profession will be helped by a Government initiative launched today by Justice Minister Lord Bach. The project, 'Barriers Leading into Law,' will look into obstacles facing students trying to pursue a career in law and how to overcome them.

Lord Sugar Takes Up New Job
Business mogul Sir Alan Sugar took his seat in the House of Lords this afternoon, amid talks of a mechanism that would allow life peers to renounce their titles. Lord Sugar, as he will be known, was appointed to the Upper Chamber by Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The BBC Apprentice star will operate as an 'enterprise tzar' for the Government.
