Bus Catches Fire And Explodes In South London

A London bus has caught fire and exploded, throwing debris across a south London street, London Fire Brigade has confirmed.

According to reports the driver stopped the bus when it was noticed smoke was coming from the rear of the vehicle. All passengers were taken from the bus before the fire took hold and lead to the explosion.

One person is said to have been treated for shock however there were no reports of serious injuries.

It is understood the incident happened at the junction of Stafford Road and Sandy Lane in Wallington at about 14:00 on Tuesday.

Bus operator Abellio have yet to comment on the incident.

Guilty Verdict In Bus Stalker Trial
Levi Bellfield has been found guilty of the murders of two women in the trial dubbed the 'Bus Stalker' killings. Bellfield was found guilty of the murders of Amelie Delagrange, 22, in August 2004 and Marsha McDonnell, 19, in February 2003, following nearly six days of deliberation by the jury at the Old Bailey.
