HM Coastguard Stand Down English Channel Search
An eight hour search for a passenger who allegedly fell overboard from a ferry in the English Channel has been stood down, with HM Coastguard saying all passengers and crew have been "accounted for safe and well".
It is understood that a witness reported seeing a person go overboard from the Pride of Kent ferry when it was around six miles off the coast of Dover. The alarm was raised at about 01:30 on Thursday morning.
A statement from HM Coastguard said: "The area has been extensively searched overnight and into this morning with nothing found.
"Unless any new information comes to light, the search has been stood down.
"All crew and passengers, including the woman believed to be missing, have been accounted for safe and well.
"However, a witness on board the ferry insists they saw someone go overboard."
