Four Hundred Patients Tested In Dentist Hygiene Scare
The dentist at the centre of a health scare in Nottinghamshire has been named as Desmond D'Mello.
22,000 patients of the dentist have been offered tests for HIV and hepatitis after a whistleblower raised "serious hygiene concerns" at D'Mello's practice.
It has been described as the "largest recall in NHS history" by NHS England.
According to reports more than four hundred patients have already attended a health centre and undergone screening for blood-borne viruses.
It has been claimed that D'Mello regularly used the same instruments on multiple patients without sterilising the equipment and failed to wash his hands.
NHS England stressed that risk of infection is low and that D'Mello has been tested and cleared of any diseases.
It is understood police are also investigating the death of a former patient in August 2013.
