One of UK's rarest spiders found in Wales
The discovery of one of the UK’s most endangered spiders at Pant–y-Sais in Wales is "fabulous news", according to the Countryside Council for Wales.
The rare adult fen raft spider was found by a member of the South and West Wales Wildlife Trust on weeds that were floating on a canal - making this the first Welsh record of the spider. Since this first discovery, more than 20 spiders have been found, some of them with young.
The fen raft spider has a black or brown body nearly an inch long, white or cream stripes down its sides and hairs on its legs that allows it to glide across the water’s surface to grab prey.
Its name comes from the way it leans over pools on a plant and dangles its front legs on the waters’ surface to pick up vibrations from approaching prey – mainly pond-skaters and dragonfly larvae, but it can even catch small fish such as sticklebacks as well as tadpoles.
David Painter, CCW’s Warden for Crymlyn Bog and Pant-y-Sais Fen, said: “This is a exciting find. Up until now, the fen raft spider was only found on two sites throughout the UK – both in eastern England. So, finding a population of this size in Wales is extremely good news."
The now endangered species was first discovered in 1956 and has long been thought to be restricted to two sites at Lopham and Redgrave Fens on the border between Suffolk and Norfolk and the Pevensey Levels in Sussex. It is protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
It is thought to be under threat of extinction in western and central-southern Europe whilst remaining well established in Scandinavia and the Baltic States.

Missing Sheffield Woman Found In North Wales
South Yorkshire Police have confirmed that a missing Yorkshire woman has been found in north Wales. 48-year-old Michelle Webster, from Sheffield, has been missing since 08 December when her car was found in Colwyn Bay. A dog walker found Ms Webster on Wednesday in Penrhyn Bay, Conwy. She has been taken to hospital.

'Cannabis factory' found in South Wales hotel
South Wales police have uncovered a drugs making factory in a former hotel. Police said that they had found a "sophisticated drugs making factory" following a raid at the Dragon Inn Chinese in part of the Jubilee Hotel in Tylorstown in Rhondda. More than 2,000 cannabis plants were seized during the raid on Sunday morning and six men were arrested.

Homeowner Sets Home On Fire Trying To Kill Spider
The fire brigade had to be called to a house in Wales after a homeowner tried to kill a spider by setting it on fire. According to reports, the homeowner and a relative had tried to kill the spider by spraying it with an aerosol and then setting it on fire, resulting in the house catching alight.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was left with serious injuries following a road traffic collision (RTC) in Wales. The incident happened yesterday, 02 November on the A525 Ruthin Road, Wrexham. A green Ford Fiesta collided with a male pedestrian in his 40's shortly after 6:30pm near the Brymbo Link Road.

Woman Dies Following Traffic Collision In Wales
A woman has died and a man is in a serious condition following a road traffic collision in Wales. The incident happened on the A470 near Betws-y-Coed on 04 October. The woman, who was in her 70's, was on the back of a motorcycle being driven by the man. The vehicle collided with a Nissan Qashqai at about 14:15.
